Role-Play Scripts For Common Childhood Social Situations

Social interactions are hard. Just when you think you have all the bases covered, something throws you off track. And to boot, you’re never sure what social situations come next. For instance, what if you see your co-workers at lunch and they offer to buy your sandwich? What do you do? Do you accept? Does this put a damper on your lunch date with your crush? Or what if your doctor offers to let you borrow her shoes while you are out of town? Again, with different social situations, it’s good to have scripts in your back pocket to follow so you can stay on message and on time. There are many additional ways to communicate with your child, but be prepared to deploy them judiciously and early. With a bit of foresight, you can get ahead of some of the social situations they’ll face and avoid some of the fallout from miscommunication. When they can talk through their social experience, they can explore the world for themselves. For the autism patient, roleplay allows them to practice interacting with others and therefore can then be incorporated into the wider education system.
